Economic Development

In 2009 the citizens of Simonton approved the establishment of two Economic Development Corporations whose activities would be funded by a locally collected sales tax.

Established were the Simonton Development Corporation and The City of Simonton Development Corporation. The Corporations are governed by a seven-member Board of Directors in the case of the Simonton Development Corporation and a five-member Board in the case of the City of Simonton Development Corporation. Board members are appointed by the City Council and must be citizens of either the City or of Fort Bend County.

Both Corporations operate under guidelines established by State Law with a slight variation in permissible activities and projects for each Corporation.

The common mission of both is to enhance the quality of life for Simonton citizens as well as promote the economic welfare of the City and its residents.

The Simonton Development Corporation has established a Business Assistance Grant Program which offers cash-match grants to local and new businesses as well as business-building owners.

Additionally, each of the Development Corporations is empowered to offer financial and other incentives to new as well as existing business enterprises seeking to relocate to Simonton or expand their local business.
